7th International Symposium on Photodynamic Therapy and Photodiagnosis in Clinical Practice
Professor David Phillips, a co-founder of PhotoBiotics Ltd, gave a very well-received plenary lecture entitled "Towards Targeted Photodynamic Therapy" at this prestigious bi-annual conference.
He presented the company's latest results on the selective in vivo destruction of tumours, using PhotoBiotics' novel targeted approach of multiple photosensitisers attached to monoclonal antibody fragments (sc-Fvs).
The symposium highlighted several research groups' attempts specifically to target photosensitisers to tumours (e.g., using whole monoclonal antibodies, nano-particles, liposomes, and folic acid).
PhotoBiotics' demonstration of the superior photosensitiser loading and targeting properties of its much smaller sc-Fvs, was thought by many at the symposium to represent an important milestone in the development of photodynamic therapy that had the potential to significantly improve its clinical outcomes.
